Dr. Aram Akopyan represented the European Institute of Integrative Health Sciences (EIIHS) at the internationally recognized TCM Kongress Rothenburg 2026, contributing to educational dialogue, collaboration, and clinical research.

The Rothenburg Congress is a major international gathering for the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) community, focusing on the future of TCM education, practice, and integrative healthcare.

Advancing International Educational Collaboration

During the congress, Dr. Akopyan participated in the 2026 European School Leaders Day, which focused on "Accreditation and Recognition: Strengthening TCM Education & Growing Student Numbers."

The gathering brought together educational leaders and professional organizations from across Europe and beyond to discuss accreditation, institutional standards, educational sustainability, and the future development of Traditional Chinese Medicine training internationally.

Formalizing EIIHS Relationships and collaborations

Also at the congress, EIIHS also formalized two important international collaborative agreements through the signing of Memoranda of Understanding with Yo San University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, represented by its President and CEO Dr. Robert Hoffman, and the National Certification Board for Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine (NCBAHM), represented by its CEO Mina Larson.

These collaborations reflect EIIHS’s continued efforts to strengthen international educational exchange, professional dialogue, and future opportunities for students and practitioners within the global integrative healthcare community.

Recognition for Innovation in Integrative Stroke Rehabilitation

One of the highlights of the congress came through Dr. Akopyan’s presentation of his research paper:

The research explored an innovative multimodal rehabilitation protocol developed at EIIHS, to stimulate neuroplasticity by combining scalp electroacupuncture, and video game activities in the treatment of post-stroke neurological impairment.

The presentation examined how game therapy—through interactive video game engagement, in conjunction with TCM Electroacupuncture of the Scalp Motor, sensory  lines, can enhance cortical regeneration, neuronal regeneration, improve recovery time and expedite return to normal function for patients suffering from stroke. The integrative model demonstrated significant improvements in motor control, muscle strength, and sensory restoration over the course of treatment.

The research case report received the congress award for the Most Innovative Research Topic in Traditional Chinese Medicine, selected by a jury of fellow researchers and congress attendees.

The recognition reflects growing interest in integrative medicine that can bridge traditional therapeutic systems with modern neurological rehabilitation strategies. It also reaffirms the EIIHS commitment to rigorous pursuit of Evidence Based Practice for our next generation of healthcare professionals.

Innovation Through Integration

Dr. Akopyan’s work reflects a broader movement occurring within integrative healthcare globally: the exploration of how Traditional Chinese Medicine can meaningfully interface with contemporary understandings of neuroregeneration, rehabilitation science, and patient-centered recovery.

Rather than viewing traditional and modern methodologies as opposing systems, research like this seeks to identify areas of synergy capable of improving patient engagement and long-term functional outcomes.

As interest in neuroplasticity and integrative rehabilitation continues to grow internationally, these conversations are becoming increasingly important within both clinical and educational settings.

EIIHS and the Future of Integrative Healthcare Education

Dr. Akopyan’s participation at Rothenburg 2026 reflects the broader mission of EIIHS: to remain actively engaged in the international advancement of Traditional Chinese Medicine education, interdisciplinary collaboration, and clinically relevant innovation.

Through educational partnerships, international dialogue, and ongoing research contributions, EIIHS continues working to help prepare practitioners capable of engaging thoughtfully with both the historical foundations and future evolution of integrative healthcare.

As the global conversation surrounding Traditional Chinese Medicine continues to evolve, gatherings like Rothenburg serve as important reminders that the future of the field will be shaped not only through preservation of tradition, but through responsible innovation, collaboration, and rigorous clinical inquiry.
