Dhulikhel Hospital Partnership Expands Clinical Training Opportunities for EIIHS Students

The European Institute of Integrative Health Sciences (EIIHS) is proud to announce the launch of a new international hospital collaboration with Dhulikhel Hospital in Nepal, marking an important advancement in hospital-based integrative medicine education, acupuncture training, and interdisciplinary clinical care.

This week, Dr. Aram Akopyan, Dean of Academics and Co-Founder of EIIHS, is on site at Dhulikhel Hospital establishing the foundation for a long-term academic and clinical partnership between the two institutions.

This collaboration reflects EIIHS’s ongoing commitment to preparing students for real-world hospital environments, where integrative medicine is practiced responsibly and collaboratively alongside medical teams.

A Formal Welcome and Shared Vision for Hospital-Based Integrative Education

Dr. Akopyan was formally welcomed during a general hospital assembly, attended by senior leadership, physicians, and department heads. The President of Dhulikhel Hospital personally welcomed EIIHS and expressed strong support for a future-focused collaboration between the hospital and the institute.

The meeting reinforced a shared academic vision centered on:

  • Patient-centered care

  • Clinical excellence

  • Ethical integration of acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) within hospital systems

This alignment underscores a mutual commitment to advancing integrative medicine within evidence-informed, multidisciplinary healthcare settings.

Integrative Acupuncture and TCM Training Within a Hospital Environment

As part of the initial phase of the collaboration, Dr. Akopyan is currently leading a specialized integrative acupuncture and TCM clinic within Dhulikhel Hospital, working directly alongside medical doctors and allied health professionals.

Clinical focus areas include hospital-based care in:

  • Orthopedics Out Patient Department

  • Pain management

  • Gynecology and obstetrics

  • Physiotherapy and rehabilitation medicine (PM&R)

  • Post-surgical recovery

  • Stroke center care

Dr. Akopyan has met directly with neurosurgeons, orthopedic surgeons, gynecologists, and PM&R department heads, engaging in interdisciplinary dialogue around patient care pathways and integrative treatment applications.

He was also provided with a dedicated inpatient suite, where he established a hospital-grade clean field and conducted complex patient treatments within an active medical setting.

What This Hospital Collaboration Means for EIIHS Students

Hospital-based training opportunities of this nature remain rare in integrative medicine education and represent a significant advantage for students seeking advanced clinical preparation.

Through collaborations like this, EIIHS continues to move beyond traditional private-clinic training models. Students at EIIHS are prepared to:

  • Understand how acupuncture and TCM function within hospital systems

  • Collaborate effectively with surgeons, physicians, and rehabilitation teams

  • Develop interdisciplinary communication and clinical reasoning skills

  • Apply integrative medicine in high-acuity, real-world medical environments

As this partnership evolves, EIIHS will continue exploring international clinical pathways and advanced training opportunities for students and graduates.

A Global Approach to Integrative Health Education

EIIHS actively builds international academic and clinical collaborations that raise the standard of integrative health education worldwide. The partnership with Dhulikhel Hospital reflects a broader institutional vision: to educate practitioners who are clinically competent, ethically grounded, and capable of working across disciplines and cultures.

Updates will be shared throughout the week as Dr. Akopyan continues his work on site in Nepal and as future opportunities emerge from this collaboration.
